Torn Ankle Ligaments
If you go to the doctor because you twisted your ankle and the doctor tells you that you have torn ankle ligaments, that means that you have sprained your ankle. Usually it takes an MRI ( magnetic resonance imaging) test to visualize the ligaments and see the severity of the injury. After the doctor knows more about the ankle ligaments torn, he’ll be able to set up a treatment plan for you.
One of the first things the doctor is going to recommend is that you REST your ankle. It’s important to keep off it. Putting weight of any kind on the ankle can do more damage and slow down the healing.
The second recommendation from the doctor is going to be ICE. Icing the injury will keep swelling and inflammation down. It’s important to keep the ice on the injury at least 10 minutes at a time but no more than 30 minutes at a time. Keep it on as long as it can be tolerated within the time frame given above. Most doctors recommend this be done at least three times a day for the first 2 – 3 days after the injury occurred.
COMPRESSION is important for the injury. It’s best if it can be wrapped with an ace bandage or an ankle brace after you know the ankle ligaments torn. Compression keeps pressure on the injury and helps minimize the swelling and bruising on the ankle.
Put a few pillows under the ankle while lying down so that the injured area is ELEVATED above the level of your heart. This also helps keep the swelling down and gives the ankle ligaments torn extra blood flow to the area. The extra blood flow to the ankle helps promote healing of the torn tendons.
Finally you will be able to start to put a bit of weight on the ankle, even with the ankle ligaments torn. When this time comes, it’s very important that the ankle be supported with an ankle brace or even use crutches and only put a small amount of weight on the ankle. This will allow the tendons to continue to heal. It’s important not to rush this step or you can do more damage and set yourself back in the recovery period.
One of the best natural remedies for faster healing comes from a combination of plant extracts. These specific plant extracts promote fast blood flow which allows for rapid healing and they also contain all natural anti-inflammatory properties to reduce swelling and assist with pain, making it easier to cope with torn ankle ligaments.
